All Details

I am a jewel of the temperate highlands, often referred to as the "Glistening Ruby" of the valley. I produce small-to-medium, heart-shaped fruits with a glossy, deep-crimson to near-black skin. My flesh is firm, incredibly juicy, and offers a perfect symphony of intense sweetness balanced by a delicate, refreshing tartness that makes me one of the most sought-after cherries in the world.

I am a premium temperate fruit variety, prized for my high sugar content and my crunchy texture, which sets me apart from softer, more acidic cherry varieties.

I am native to the high-altitude, snow-fed valleys of Kashmir, India, where I have been cultivated for centuries in the unique microclimate of the Himalayas.

I require consistent moisture, especially during fruit-set; I thrive on the pure, cold water from mountain springs but need extremely well-drained soil to prevent my roots from rotting.

I love bright, clear sunlight for at least 6 to 8 hours a day, which helps me develop my deep red pigments and concentrated sugars.

I am a cold-weather specialist; I require a significant "chilling period" (temperatures below 7°C) in winter to bloom, and I prefer mild summers between 20°C and 30°C.

I grow best in deep, fertile, sandy-loam soils at altitudes between 1,500 and 2,500 meters; I am often grafted onto hardy rootstocks to ensure resilience.

I thrive on organic matter and well-rotted sheep or cow manure; a balanced dose of phosphorus in early spring helps me produce my signature heavy clusters of blooms.

My scientific name is Prunus avium and I belong to the Rosaceae family.

While my flesh is safe in small amounts, my pits, stems, and leaves contain cyanogenic glycosides (cyanide) and are highly toxic to dogs, cats, and horses.

My beautiful spring blossoms provide vital nectar for bees, and my leafy summer canopy helps cool the surrounding air and filter dust in mountainous regions.

I am a nutritional powerhouse, packed with antioxidants like anthocyanins, Vitamin C, and melatonin, which help reduce inflammation and improve sleep quality.

I am delicate; I am susceptible to bird damage (they love my sweetness!) and fruit cracking if it rains heavily just before harvest.

I am a moderately long-lived deciduous tree, providing bountiful, sweet harvests for 20 to 35 years under proper care.
