I am a stunningly beautiful and highly aromatic heritage variety, famous for my unique rosy fragrance and my captivating pinkish-red blush. I produce small-to-medium, oval-shaped fruits with a smooth, thin skin that turns a bright yellow splashed with crimson when ripe. My flesh is deep yellow-orange, firm, and completely fiberless, offering a sweet, non-cloying flavor with distinct floral undertones.
I am a boutique dessert mango variety, highly prized for my "rose-like" (Gulab) scent and my firm, melting texture that makes me a favorite for table use.
I am an ancient variety from the Bihar and West Bengal regions of India, where I have been cherished for centuries as a "Khas" (special) fruit of the elite.
I prefer regular, deep watering during the flowering stage, but I thrive when the soil is kept relatively dry as the fruit matures to concentrate my floral oils.
I require full, direct sunlight for at least 8 to 10 hours a day; maximum sun exposure is what creates the beautiful red "blush" on my skin.
I love warm, tropical to subtropical climates between 24°C and 38°C and am well-adapted to the humid summers of Eastern India.
I have a moderately vigorous growth habit and prefer deep, fertile, and well-draining soil where my roots can establish a strong foundation.
I appreciate a balanced organic diet; I respond very well to leaf mold, well-rotted manure, and a boost of potassium in early spring to enhance my color.
My scientific name is Mangifera indica 'Gulab Khas' and I belong to the Anacardiaceae family.
My fruit flesh is safe in small bites, but my sap is quite aromatic and can be irritating to a pet's skin or mouth; the pit should always be discarded.
My lush, dense evergreen canopy is highly efficient at filtering air pollutants and providing a fragrant, oxygen-rich environment for your garden.
I am rich in Vitamin A and antioxidants, and because of my firm flesh and intense aroma, I am one of the best varieties for making premium mango desserts.
I am generally hardy, but I can be sensitive to powdery mildew during a damp spring, so I benefit from a spot with excellent air circulation.
I am a sturdy and long-lived perennial tree that can continue to provide "rose-scented" harvests for 40 to 60 years or more.
