I am a stunningly vibrant and modern mango variety, famously known for my deep, crimson-red skin that makes me look more like a large apple or a plum than a traditional mango. I produce medium-to-large, oblong fruits with a smooth, tough skin. My flesh is a bright, golden-yellow, firm, and completely fiberless, offering a mild to moderate sweetness with a refreshing, clean tropical flavor.
I am a high-yielding, mid-season mango variety prized primarily for my extraordinary "Lalima" (redness), which gives me immense ornamental and commercial market appeal.
I was developed by the Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) in Lucknow, India, through a selection process aimed at creating a colorful, export-quality mango.
I need regular, deep watering during the flowering and fruit-development stages to ensure my fruits reach their full size and juice potential.
I am a total sun-lover; I require intense, direct sunlight for 8 to 10 hours a day to develop my signature deep red skin—without enough sun, I stay mostly green.
I thrive in warm, subtropical and tropical climates between 24°C and 38°C and am well-adapted to the hot, sunny summers of Northern and Central India.
I have a moderately vigorous growth habit and prefer deep, fertile, well-draining soil where I can establish a strong root system to support my heavy clusters of red fruit.
I enjoy a balanced diet of organic manure and a potassium-rich fertilizer in early spring, which helps enhance both the intensity of my skin color and the quality of my pulp.
My scientific name is Mangifera indica 'Lalima' and I belong to the Anacardiaceae family.
My fruit flesh is safe for pets in moderation, but my sap is quite potent and can cause skin irritation; always keep the large pit away from animals.
My dense, evergreen canopy is a great air filter, providing oxygen and cooling shade, while my colorful fruits add a unique aesthetic to any landscape.
I am an excellent source of Vitamin C and dietary fiber, and because my skin is relatively thick, I have an excellent shelf life and resist bruising during transport.
I am generally more resistant to mango malformation than some older varieties, but I should be monitored for fruit flies and powdery mildew during humid weather.
I am a sturdy and long-lived perennial tree that can provide you with eye-catching, red harvests for 40 to 60 years.
