I am Lipote, the tropical berry tree with glossy leaves and clusters of purple-black fruits. My berries taste like a mix of blueberry and jamun, loved fresh or turned into preserves. I thrive in warm climates, offering shade, beauty, and seasonal treats.

I am a tropical fruit tree producing small purple berries with sweet-tart flavor.

Native to the Philippines, Sulawesi, and Lesser Sunda Islands.

Water weekly; drought-tolerant once mature.

Requires full sun.

Thrives in 25–35°C; sensitive to frost.

Plant in well-drained sandy-loam soil; spacing 6–8 meters apart.

Apply compost annually; minimal fertilizer needed.

Botanical name: Syzygium polycephaloides; Family: Myrtaceae.

Fruits are safe; seeds edible but small.

Moderate; dense canopy reduces dust.

Fruits rich in vitamin C, antioxidants; used in jams, wines, and local remedies.

Susceptible to fruit fly and fungal rot; prune for airflow.

Can live 40–60 years; starts fruiting in 4–5 years; peak yield from year 10 onward.
