Native to Florida, the Caribbean, and tropical Central/South America.
Water weekly; drought- and salt-tolerant once established.
Full sun to partial shade.
Thrives in 24–35°C; tolerates coastal winds and saline soils.
Plant in sandy or loamy soil; spacing 2–3 meters apart for hedges.
Apply compost annually; minimal fertilization needed.
Botanical name: Chrysobalanus icaco; Family: Chrysobalanaceae.
Fruits are safe; seeds not typically consumed.
Moderate; dense foliage reduces dust and wind erosion.
