I am Garmalo, the golden shower of Indian summers. My long, drooping flower clusters light up roadsides and temple groves, while my bark and pods heal quietly in ancient remedies. I grow tall, bloom bright, and serve both spirit and soil.
I am a flowering tree with golden-yellow blooms and medicinal pods.
Native to India and Southeast Asia; widely cultivated across tropical regions.
Water weekly when young; drought-tolerant when mature.
Requires full sun (6–8 hours daily).
Thrives in 25–40°C; tolerates dry heat.
Plant in well-drained loamy soil; spacing 6–8 meters apart.
Apply compost annually; minimal fertilization needed.
Botanical name: Cassia fistula; Family: Fabaceae.
Pods mildly toxic if consumed in large quantities.
Moderate; canopy reduces dust and heat.
Pods used as laxative; bark and flowers in Ayurveda for skin, digestion, and fever.
Generally hardy; may attract caterpillars and aphids.
Can live 40–60 years; starts flowering in 3–4 years; peak bloom from year 7 onward.
