I am a tropical shrub producing miracle berries.
Native to West Africa; cultivated in tropical regions worldwide.
Irrigate weekly; prefer moist, well-drained soil.
Requires partial shade to full sun.
Thrives in 20–30°C; sensitive to frost.
Plant in acidic sandy-loam soil; spacing 2–3 meters apart.
Apply compost and organic fertilizer; avoid alkaline soil.
Botanical name: Synsepalum dulcificum; Family: Sapotaceae.
Fruits are safe; seeds not edible.
Moderate; leafy shrub reduces dust.
Contains miraculin, which binds to taste buds and temporarily alters sour perception to sweet.
Susceptible to root rot and leaf spot; prune for airflow and monitor regularly.
Can live 10–15 years; starts fruiting in 2–3 years; peak yield from year 5 onward.
