I am Timru, also known as the Toothache Tree, a spiny shrub or small tree native to the Himalayan foothills. My bark and fruits are packed with essential oils and have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to relieve toothaches, digestive troubles, and skin ailments. I thrive in warm valleys and bring both healing and resilience wherever I grow.
I am a spiny shrub known for my aromatic fruits and medicinal bark, often used to treat toothaches and digestive issues.
Native to the Himalayan region, from Jammu to Bhutan and parts of Southeast Asia.
Water moderately; allow soil to dry slightly between sessions.
Prefers full sun to partial shade.
Thrives in warm climates between 18–30°C.
Plant in well-drained soil with good sunlight; prune to manage shape.
Apply organic compost or mild NPK mix twice a year.
Botanical name: Zanthoxylum armatum; Family: Rutaceae.
Not recommended for pet ingestion due to strong essential oils.
Moderate; aromatic oils may deter pests and purify air.
Used in Ayurveda for toothaches, fevers, and digestive health.
May attract aphids or fungal spots in humid conditions.
Can live 15–25 years with proper care and pruning.
