I am the Banyan Tree, a living monument of time and shelter. My vast canopy spreads through aerial roots that grow into new trunks, creating natural pavilions of shade and serenity. Revered in Indian mythology and village life, I’m a symbol of immortality, wisdom, and community. I thrive in tropical climates and offer refuge to birds, animals, and humans alike.

I am a majestic tree with aerial roots and a vast canopy, symbolizing longevity and shelter in Indian culture.

Native to the Indian subcontinent and tropical Asia.

Water deeply once a week; drought-tolerant when mature.

Requires full sun.

Thrives in warm climates between 25–38°C.

Plant in open space with deep, well-drained soil; allow room for root spread.

Apply compost or organic manure annually.

Botanical name: Ficus benghalensis; Family: Moraceae.

Non-toxic to pets, but large leaves may cause mild digestive upset if ingested.

Excellent; filters pollutants and increases oxygen levels.

Provides shade, supports biodiversity, and holds spiritual and ecological value.

May develop root overgrowth or fungal rot in soggy soil.

Can live for several centuries; some trees are over 500 years old.
