I am a celebrated and unique member of the "Rasam" (juice) family of mangoes, specifically cherished by those who love the traditional way of eating mangoes—by squeezing and sucking. I produce medium-sized, somewhat rounded fruits with a thin, greenish-yellow skin. My name, "Peda Rasam," hints at my characteristic sweetness, as I offer a flavor that is as rich and milky-sweet as the famous Indian sweet, Peda.
I am a premier "juicy" variety, prized for my high liquid content and remarkably soft pulp that turns into a thick, delicious nectar inside the fruit as I ripen.
I am a traditional heritage variety from the southern states of India, particularly popular in the coastal and delta regions of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
I require deep and regular watering during my fruit-setting stage to ensure my pulp stays juicy and plentiful, though I need a dry spell during winter to trigger my flowering.
I am a sun-lover; I need 8 to 10 hours of direct sunlight daily to develop the high sugar levels (Brix) that give me my signature "Peda" sweetness.
I thrive in hot, humid tropical climates between 26°C and 42°C and am very well-adapted to the intense heat of the South Indian summer.
I grow into a medium-to-large tree with a spreading canopy; I prefer deep, fertile loamy soils with excellent drainage to prevent my roots from becoming waterlogged.
I respond very well to organic manures and traditional composting; a boost of potassium in the early spring helps me produce larger, sweeter fruits with more juice.
My scientific name is Mangifera indica 'Peda Rasam' and I belong to the Anacardiaceae family.
My juice is a safe treat for pets in small amounts, but my skin is thin and may carry sap, which is an irritant—always remove the pit to prevent choking.
My broad, evergreen leaves are excellent at filtering dust and producing oxygen, providing a cooling and refreshing microclimate for your orchard.
I am an excellent source of quick energy, Vitamin A, and Vitamin C; I am the ultimate variety for making fresh mango juice or "Aamras" without the need for a blender.
Because my skin is thin and I am very sweet, I can be attractive to fruit flies; I benefit from being harvested just as my color begins to turn.
I am a sturdy and reliable perennial tree that can continue to provide you with "juicy" and sweet harvests for 40 to 60 years.
