I am a historical and majestic mango variety, often called the "Pride of Rewa." I am so distinct and high in quality that I have even been featured on an Indian postage stamp. I produce medium-sized, somewhat oval fruits with a smooth skin that remains light green with a yellowish tinge even when ripe. My flesh is a deep, rich orange, remarkably fiberless, and offers a unique, sophisticated sweetness with a slightly pleasant "bite" and a wonderful, lingering aroma.
I am a premium heritage variety, highly valued for my unique chemical composition—I have a high sugar content (TSS) but am also considered "low-sugar" in terms of glycemic impact, making me a favorite even among those who are health-conscious.
I originate from the Govindgarh region in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, India. I was granted the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2023.
I prefer moderate watering with excellent drainage; I am quite hardy once established and can tolerate the dry periods characteristic of Central India.
I am a sun-lover; I require at least 8 to 10 hours of direct sunlight to develop my high nutritional profile and signature deep-orange pulp.
I thrive in the hot, dry summers of Central India, performing best in temperatures between 25°C and 42°C.
I grow into a medium-to-large tree with a sturdy, spreading canopy; I prefer the loamy and slightly stony soils typical of the Vindhya plateau.
I respond best to organic fertilizers and traditional farmyard manure, which help maintain the unique mineral balance that makes my flavor so distinct.
My scientific name is Mangifera indica 'Sundarja' and I belong to the Anacardiaceae family.
My fruit flesh is safe for pets, but the tree's sap and leaves contain urushiol, which can cause skin irritation; always keep the pit away from animals.
My dense, broad-leaved canopy is excellent at sequestering carbon and providing a cool, shaded environment in hot, dry regions.
I am uniquely rich in antioxidants and vitamins; I am also highly prized for my medicinal properties in local folklore and my ability to retain flavor during storage.
I am relatively hardy but should be monitored for powdery mildew during the flowering stage if the spring is unusually humid.
I am a long-lived and resilient perennial tree that can provide "Sundar" (beautiful) harvests for 50 to 70 years.
